Von-Roth Cocktail Table

Table originally done back in 2012.

There are two names that come up every time when talking about the origination of Kustom Kulture and modern day pinstriping. They are Von Dutch and Ed “Big Daddy” Roth. When I was beginning to pinstripe, I always wanted to do something to memorialize both of them in one piece.

What I had was an old 20 gal barrel and some particle board. The barrel is smaller than the common 50 gal barrel so I knew it would be the perfect height for a table. I got some particle board, blued it and cut it into a round, thick table top. I sanded it smoth and put body filler on it to take out the imperfections. I did a full automotive, metal-flake paint job on it and topped it off with a flying eyeball and some pinstriping.

For the barrel, I painted it a custom “slime green” and slathered on some one-shot paint in the shape of a Rat Fink. Around the rat I added “Rat Poison”.

13 years later, I revisited this piece and noticed that the top was a bit worn and in desperate need of a rejuvenation. Before refinishing the top, I added one more color and signed it again with a new date. Then I topped it off with some new clear and threw a nice glass of whiskey on top to celebrate this fun table.

Thanks for looking. I hope you enjoy it.
